Since 2006 PEN Center Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has organized a series of public debates dealing with topics of freedom of expression, the status of books and publishing in BiH, the role of media and the place of culture in a transitional society.
The aim of the 2014 Centre Programme, entitled Literary Bridge, is to continue the panel discussions and further contribute to the promotion and development of free public speech in BiH. This year’s public debate topics include discussions on the policies of literary translations in the region and building bridges through translation and literature. The first public event of this year’s series was organised in Sarajevo in March 2014 with the title The Century of the Missing..
PEN Centre Bosnia Herzegovina’s activities form part of an International Programmes initiative jointly supported by PEN International and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. The aim of the initiative is to support civil society and capacity building activities in several countries including, among others, Zambia, Sierra Leone, Central Asia, Cambodia, Nepal, Ghana, Guinea, Malawi and Puerto Rico.
