Suisse Romand PEN 1At the Geneva International Book and Press Fair last month, PEN Suisse Romand hosted a stand showcasing the work of PEN. This important literary and cultural event in Geneva, Switzerland is an opportunity for publishers, authors, distributors, media and other decision makers in the written word to get together and exchange thoughts and ideas about their shared enthusiasm.

Suisse Romand PEN 2During the event, several hundred authors, publishers and readers signed appeal-petitions protesting the persecution of writers, journalists and bloggers including Peace Nobel Prize Liu Xiaobo and his wife Liu Xia in China, Ta Phong Tan, Ho Thi Bich Khuong and Lu Van Bay (an honorary member of PEN Suisse Romand) in Viet Nam. PEN Swiss Romand’s stand displayed PEN Centre publications alongside the literary works of PEN International authors, including books of PEN-supported imprisoned writers, and several PEN documents including: PEN Declaration on Digital Freedom, Girona Manifesto on Linguistic Rights, Bled Manifesto of Writers for Peace Committee, a collection of PEN WiPC Case Lists and the PEN International Magazine.
