      Every year, PEN International hosts a number of events around the world promoting freedom of expression and celebrating literature in a variety of ways. PEN Centres stage events such as literary festivals large and small, storytelling sessions with families and children, book clubs and everything in between. One important occasion to mark is the annual Day of the Imprisoned Writer, 15 November, which gives the entire PEN community a chance to celebrate our work across the world as well as drawing attention to the ongoing persecution faced by many writers today.

    News: 23 November marks the International Day to End Impunity

    26 November 2011. Today marks the International Day to End Impunity, a call to action to demand justice for those who have been killed for exercising their right to freedom of expression and to shed light on the issue of impunity.



    IFEX, the International Freedom of Expression Exchange, are calling on individuals to get involved by:

    Sending an on-line letter for each of the 23 featured cases of impunity at http://daytoendimpunity.org/take_action

    Joining the Conversation on Impunity live from Vienna. Have your questions answered by the experts at 17:30 GMT Wednesday at http://daytoendimpunity.org/live. (Ask questions on Twitter using #askIDEI)

    Helping to tell the story, by sending any photos and information on events to mark the day to ifex@daytoendimpunity.org.

    Ending impunity is one of the major focuses of PEN International and this International Day offers a great opportunity for our members to learn more about these issues and to take action.
