On the19-20 October, Czech PEN Centre brought Free the Word! programming to the 22nd Autumn Book Fair in Havlíčkův Brod. Established in 1991, the Autumn Book Fair is the second largest literary event in the Czech Republic, with over 15,000 visitors every year. The book fair brings together large and established publishing houses with smaller specialised publishers; this year some 170 publishers and over 70 writers participated in the programme as well as guests from Kurdistan, Iraq, Kosovo, Serbia and more.
Free the Word! events included writers such as Jiří Kratochvil, Kateřina Tučková, Michal Viewegh, Ludvík Vaculík, Irena Obermannová and many more. The writers explored themes of the communist past of the Czech Republic and freedom of expression.
