PEN Club Mexico Issues Statement on Violence Against Journalists

In response to the recent killings of print and photo journalists in Veracruz, Mexico, PEN Club Mexico has issued a statement calling for an end to ‘Mexico’s war on journalists.’
The statement, issued yesterday, 3 May 2012, calls for all attacks on journalists to be investigated at the federal level, and for the provision of a secure and functioning protection mechanism for all journalists under threat.
It also calls on the governments of Canada, the United States of America and the European Union to make future aid dependent upon the Mexican Government ‘taking genuine and effective action in dealing with human rights violations committed against journalists.’
