PEN International Writers for Peace Meeting in Lisbon this Week

Lisbon, Crossroad of Dialogue and Freedom of Expression-27./28.6.2013

Portuguese PEN and Writers for Peace are holding an international meeting of writers on the 27th and 28th of June.

Celebrating the confluence between the interrogation of historical memories, the reflection on the dynamics of the present crisis and the possible actions taken by writers, in their own writing and beyond it, this meeting intends to correspond to the double face of PEN: literature and citizenship.

The meeting will consist of a series of discussions and talks, ranging from Writers facing Conflicts on Thursday morning to discuss the relationship between writing and conflict and violence – with writers from Israel, Kosovo, Palestine, Portugal, Slovenia to name a few – to Writers facing Challenges of Liberty of Expression on Friday with writers from Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Portugal.
