The 83rd PEN International Congress, hosted by Ukraine PEN in partnership with Lviv City Council and the Lviv UNESCO City of Literature Office

Theme: Reclaiming Truth in Times of Propaganda

Location: Lviv, Ukraine.

The Congress will take place in Lviv is the largest city in western Ukraine and is known as a centre for art, literature, music and theatre. Lviv’s old town is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Venues: Official meetings will be held at Premier Hotel Dnister. Evening and literary events will be held at a range of cultural and educational establishments in Lviv.

Confirmed guest writers include the Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Alexievich (Belarus), multiple Nobel Prize nominee Adam Zagajewski (Poland), Peter Pomerantsev (the UK), Paul Auster (the USA) and the Ukrainian writers Yurii Andrukhovych, Andrey Kurkov, Sergiy Zhadan, Olena Styazhkina.

Registration Fees (without accommodation):

Official Delegates €300 

A PEN Centre may nominate two of their members to act as official delegates and represent their Centre at Congress. Official delegates from Centres eligible to vote will have full voting rights during the Assembly of Delegates and are invited to participate in all Congress events.

Participant Observers €300

Further members of a PEN Centre may attend Congress but are not permitted to vote on behalf of their Centre. Participants are invited to participate in all Congress events.

Accompanying Persons €150

Family and friends of PEN members are welcome to attend the Congress literary programme and social events. Accompanying Persons are not permitted to attend official PEN meetings such as the Main Assembly of Delegates, Committees Meetings, Network Meetings or any further workshops designed for PEN members only.

Lviv City Council is a municipal body representing the interests of Lviv community and administrating local affairs on behalf thereof. Lviv City Council is considered to be among the most innovative and progressive authorities in Ukraine implementing brand-new technologies in the areas of administrative services and infrastructure development of the city. From 2013 till 2015 the office for culture of Lviv city council was active assistant in the applying process to UCCN program.

Project office of “Lviv – UNESCO City of Literature” is an organisation supporting and mediating local literary initiatives. It integrates contributors of Lviv cultural community and shapes up relationships between them. Office of “Lviv – City of Literature” also analyses situation in cultural area and consolidates international cooperation. Promotion of cultural events in the city is one of the priorities of the office.
