In 2011 PEN Nepal conducted a study on young people’s reading habits which concluded that there is a lack of reading materials in Nepalese schools that are compatible with young people’s needs. Building on the findings of the 2011 study PEN Nepal has initiated a new school library programme in the Lalitpur region of Nepal to provide access to both students and the local communities to reading materials. In addition, the Centre is also planning to organise writer’s workshops in 2013 to develop sample books by Nepalese writers for young readers.
