Since our first International Congress 90 years ago, PEN has been a truly global organisation, with our country offices leading the way in the defence of writers, essayists, novelists, bloggers and journalists throughout the world. All of PEN’s policy and advocacy work is governed by the PEN Charter which has guided, unified and inspired its members for over 60 years. Our long-held conviction that literature and freedom of expression are inseparable has led to PEN becoming an established advocate in the field of human rights.
