PEN members are people who spend their daily lives working with literature in an endless variety of ways, such as writing novels; translating poetry; publishing or promoting new or established writers; making speeches; reporting on local or world events; lobbying governments; encouraging writers and readers of every age; and so much more.

PEN members join a local or national PEN Centre, becoming a part of our international movement. Without them, and the vital work they do in the name of literature and freedom of expression, PEN International would not exist.
