Raymar AGUADO HERNÁNDEZ

Art critic and columnist Raymar Aguado Hernández continued to be subjected to harassment by authorities after engaging in student activism during the year (see Case Lists 2023/4-2025). On 10 June 2025, an officer went to his home to deliver a summons ordering him to appear at the Zanja y Dragones police station in Havana; when he refused to sign it on the grounds that it was unlawful, he was ordered verbally to appear. On 11 June, he was detained at his residence and taken to the police station, where he was interrogated for several hours on suspicion of ‘incitement to commit a crime’ in connection with his social media activity and his support for student demonstrations. He was also subjected to threats and intimidation. Aguado Hernández stated that the authorities confiscated his documents and warned him that they could arrest and prosecute him if he left his house.

Raymar Aguado Hernández is a student at the Centro de Estudios Eclesiásticos Padre Félix Varela. He also works as an art critic and writes for media outlets such as Rialta Magazine, Hypermedia and La Joven Cuba. In 2023, he published ¿(Des)aciertos críticos? La obra de cinco artistas visuales cubanos (Critical (mis)successes? The work of five Cuban visual artists), by Aquiescencia Editorial.
