Ege Dündar Introduces the Young Writers Committee
2 May 2025: A century after PEN’s founding, its youngest-ever board member, Ege Dündar, carries forward its mission by championing the voices of young writers worldwide. Today, Dündar reflects on the revival of the Tomorrow Club, a vision first imagined by PEN’s founder Catherine Amy Dawson Scott, as a global digital platform where young people from 58 countries unite.
Through the Young Writers Committee, Dündar highlights the shared challenges young people face today: shrinking civic space, censorship, economic hardship, and isolation. Despite this, youth-led movements from Palestine to Serbia are driving forward collective action on climate, equality, and free expression.
Dündar shares a personal testimony of how international solidarity helped secure his father’s release from unjust imprisonment in Turkey, underscoring PEN’s unique role in offering hope and protection to writers under threat. The Tomorrow Club aims to extend that same support system to the next generation, connecting storytellers across borders to amplify their experiences and inspire a more just future.
