Gaza Collection: Writers in the Face of Genocide
Voices from Gaza is a booklet of testimonies from Palestinian writers living through the ongoing genocide. Collected and translated by PEN International, these accounts, mostly written in Arabic, reveal daily realities rarely reflected in mainstream coverage, including stories of loss, survival, and extraordinary resilience amid devastation.
Since October 2023, Palestinians have faced immense suffering as Gaza’s people, culture, and heritage come under systematic attack. PEN International joins the UN, legal experts, human rights organisations, and genocide scholars in recognising that a genocide is being perpetrated through widespread killings, destruction, and the weaponisation of aid.
Voices From Gaza: Testimonies of Loss and Survival
Launched on 6 December 2024, this project documents the cases of 23 writers and poets who were killed between October 2023 and September 2024, marking it as the deadliest conflict for writers in recent history.
This collection serves as an archive honouring those writers who have been killed in Gaza since 7 October 2023. At PEN International, we believe that these stories must be told and remembered.
