Palestinian poet Ghassan Zaqtan and poet and translator Fady Joudah awarded The Griffin Poetry Prize

On the 13th of June 2013, The Griffin Poetry Prize 2013 was awarded to Palestinian poet Ghassan Zaqtan for his latest poetry collection ‘Like a Straw Bird it Follows Me, And Other Poems’, and to Fady Joudah for his translation of the poetry from Arabic to English; which ‘illuminates the vision of what Arabic poetry in general and Palestinian poetry in particular are capable of’. The award for Canadian poetry went to David W. McFadden for his book titled ‘What’s the Score’.

The award was presented by Scott Griffin, also Chairman and Director of Publisher House at Anansi Press, who founded the prize in 2000 to serve and encourage excellence in Poetry. The Griffin Poetry Prize is awarded to an International and Canadian poet in Toronto each year. The Prize for winning the award is C$65,000.
